On the occasion of the 2020 European Union Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), EBC co-organised the event “Spurring Europe’s renovation wave – how #BetterBuildingsEU can contribute to #EUGreenRecovery” together with smartEn, SolarPower Europe, BPIE, EuropeOn, EuroACE, EU-ASE and EHPA.
 | The event aimed at inspiring the policy debate on the “Renovation Wave” in the context of the European Green Recovery and outlined, in line with the focus point of the #BetterBuildingsEU campaign, that energy efficient, flexible and renewable-based buildings should play a key role in the recovery plan while contributing to climate neutrality and fostering industrial competitiveness, digital innovation, comfort and well-being of occupants. |
The first session, moderated by EBC, consisted of an exchange of key construction and energy stakeholders and the audience around five recommendations to drive integrated renovations and to shape an ambitious “Renovation Wave” with immediate effects:
The second session then followed up on the recommendations towards integrated building renovations in the Green Recovery with MEP Pernille Weiss (EPP/Danemark), Inge Bernaerts (DG Energy) and Ralf Goldmann (European Investment Bank), who highlighted the importance to focus on holistic renovation strategies and to strengthen energy efficiency financing and technical assistance.
EBC considers it essential to boost the market demand for sustainable buildings that are energy efficient, flexible and renewable-based by means of financial support and holistic policies. This will not just be crucial to reach the European climate and energy goals, but also to support the many construction SMEs active in the renovation market which suffered strongly from the Covid-19 implications.
