Standardisation: Small Business Standards publishes call for experts to represent SMEs in standardisation in 2025

July 11, 2024

Small Business Standards (SBS) has announced its annual call for experts to represent European SMEs in standardisation bodies for 2025. This call is open to professionals from any sector interested in representing SME and craftsmen interests within standardisation organisations such as CEN, CENELEC, ETSI, ISO, or IEC. The deadline to apply is 9 September 2024.

SBS will select experts based on their expertise in the relevant field and its significance for SMEs and craftsmen. The candidates should be familiar with the standardisation system and be proficient in English, the primary language for meetings and documentation. To ensure their active involvement in shaping standards that benefit SMEs across Europe, the selected experts can be compensated for their preparation, participation, and reporting on technical meetings in the respective standardisation bodies.

Interested candidates should submit a completed application form highlighting their motivation and evidence of relevant skills, a recent CV, and a support letter from an SME association. All application materials should be sent to president@sbs-sme.eu by September 9.

To help potential applicants, SBS is hosting a webinar on 29 August from 13:30 to 14:30. This online session will introduce SBS, provide details about the call for experts, and answer any possible question. Interested applicants can register for the webinar through this link.

Facilitating direct SME participation in the standardisation process is the most important activity of SBS. Each year, around 60 experts are appointed to advocate for SME interests, monitor the development of new standards, and ensure SMEs are actively engaged in the standardisation process. This representation covers diverse areas, from machinery and construction to information technology and tourism. EBC is a founding member of SBS and coordinates the SBS experts relevant to construction.
