Standardisation is essential for the EU construction sector, ensuring safety, quality, and consistency across projects and products. It provides a harmonized framework that simplifies regulatory compliance and facilitates trade across member states, allowing manufacturers and craftsmen to access the EU’s Internal Market more efficiently. For the construction sector, standardisation fosters innovation and competitiveness by establishing a shared technical language.
With around 600 harmonized standards and 1,500 test method standards impacting construction products, the sector is among the most regulated in Europe. These standards ensure uniformity in materials, techniques, and testing, contributing to higher-quality outcomes and streamlined processes.
EBC actively represents the interests of construction SMEs and craftsmen in the standardisation process, in collaboration with Small Business Standards (SBS). EBC ensures that the unique needs and challenges of smaller enterprises are addressed, promoting fair and balanced standardisation practices that empower them and support the entire construction value chain.
